Checkout Nollywood’s New Secret, Ogechi Peters

NOLLYWOOD has a way of throwing up new talents.
Here is one of the promising talents that the self-styled movie industry has thrown up, Enter the vivacious, kind, amiable and approachable Ogechi Peters. Born and raised in Lagos but originally from Imo State, ‘Oge’ as the actress is simply called is a talent to watch. An old girl of Federal Government Girls College, Sagamu, Ogun State and an alumnus of the Imo State University, Oge has shown with the few works she has done that she has her eyes on the summit. She has also shown that she is a good material that any producer would want to have on set.
Celebrity caught up with her at the just concluded African International Film Festival (AFRIFF) held in Tinapa, Cross River State and she spoke about her career and life.

Was acting what you wanted to do from childhood?
Yes, I have always wanted to go into acting ever since when I was a child growing up. I grew up watching television drama and soaps and someone how I knew that one day I would try it and if it works out for me, then I would continue with it.
But at one point too, I wanted to be a model or go into politics, like take up a political appointment. But acting came into the picture and am here today

When did it occur to you that you could stay on to acting?
That was after the movie I did for Pressing Forward productions in Owerri titled ‘A Night with the Governor’. It was then that I realized that I could actually take it more seriously. I was also propelled after seeing people uncle Pete Edochie, Queen Nwokoye on set. I played one of the girls who was to be trained to see the governor. At first it was all fun, because the set was easy and they were all nice to me. But I think it was actually when I started getting major roles, that I realized that I have gotten into this and because I am in it, I needed to prove myself.

And after ‘A Night with the Governor,’ what next?
After that, I got other roles. I played another good role in Chinwe Isaacs’s movie called ‘School War’ and then after that another subhead in Chioma Okoye ‘Keep My Secret’ and ‘Dirty Mind’. I have been able to take part in quite a few movies and a lot of them are at various stages of production. I have just rounded up work on one you should look out for titled ‘Lagos Men’. It is a new series that is a must watch, starring Joseph Benjamin, Paul Sambo, Solomon Akinyesi, Bukky Wright and many others.

Are you fulfilled as an actor?
I am happy doing this at least I am doing something I love doing. No matter how difficult it gets, you never can tell what God has in store for you. I mean, even if I am given a political appointment today, I won't stop acting. Even if I marry the President today, I wont quit. Even if it becomes impossible to find time, I will produce movies. As for my future husband asking me to quit, I believe I will always respect whatever decisions he makes. But if my husband understands that it is what I love doing, I am sure he will be cool with it. I am sure he will understand and let me follow my heart.

I hear it is difficult to cope as a single lady in movie world?
Well, as a single lady, I can't really say I face challenges, other than me trying to be the best I can be even though I reckon that some people will always take my being nice to be something else...I mean we all face that don't we? I mean that is common. But what I try to do is to be focused and simply face what I have come to the industry to do.

What are your likes and dislikes?
I like people who are real. That is, people who are not pretentious. I like people that are also outgoing and those who cut their coats according to their clothes and not their sizes. As for my dream man, I would love a man that is God fearing, hardworking and a man who is a good listener and a man that will always encourage me. As for favourite food, I think I like white soup (Ofe Nsala) and wheat. I love white and navy blue for colours and for music, it all depend on my mood. As for what I wear, it also depends on my mood and the occasion. But I don't dress to impress. Rather I dress to please myself.

What is your career ambition?
My career ambition is to be the best in my chosen career. I want to be at the head, always. No matter what I am or where I am going, by the grace of God, I am a born leader by ambition. So I want to get to the point where I can be described as a leader in this profession.
You asked the other time whether I have any regrets and the answer is no. I have no regrets and you know why? I try to make every mistake I have made, a lesson to me, and that is helping to make me a better lady by the day. So I am happy doing this and will continue to do this.
