Gov. Masari Heads 7-Man APC C’ttee For Edo Guber Primary
Ahead of the June 18 governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Governor Aminu Bello Masari has been appointed head of a seven-man election committee to conduct the exercise.
A total of 2,873 delegates are also expected to participate in the election of the APC flag bearer for the September 10 governorship election of Edo State.
The 12 governorship aspirants to feature in tomorrow’s primary election include Mr. Blessing Abdulwarith Agbomhere; Major Gen. Charles Ehigie Airhiavbere; Prof. Fredrick Ebegue Amadasun; Hon. Emmanuel Arigbe-Osula; Architect Austin Ilenre Emuan; Comrade Peter Ekhermhalomhen Esele; Barrister Kenneth Imansuangbon; Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki; Pius Egberanmwen Odubu; Mrs. Agbarha Justina Ebeyehi Ojehor; Engineer Christopher Osa Ogiemwonyi and Professor Oserheimen Aigberadion Osunbor.
Releasing the figures of the delegates yesterday during the inauguration of the primary election committee, the APC National Organising Secretary, Senator Osita Izunaso, said the three man election Appeal committee will be led by a former member of the House of Representatives, Opeyemi Bamidele.
Senator Isunazo, who handed over the guidelines for the primary election and the delegates’ list to Governor Masari, said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had given an assurance to attend the primary scheduled to hold in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
The breakdown shows that ward delegates include 12 persons per ward from 192 wards; 26 persons each as delegates from each of the 18 local government councils; 35 state executive delegates and 66 statutory delegates.
Inaugurating the committees, the APC Deputy National Chairman, South, Engineer Segun Oni, expressed confidence in the ability of the two committees to handle what he called “critical assignment” in the “best way and tradition”.
In his response, Masari assured all aspirants of the committee’s readiness to exhibit high sense of justice and fairness to them.
The Katsina governor said a meeting would be held with all the 12 aspirants today (Friday) in order to ensure a smooth exercise.
“We have no preferred candidate. What we will be doing in Edo is for the APC, Nigeria and Edo people. What is most important is that we have gone through this process. I have a bitter experience of this process, and I know how a party can lose election through an unfair and unjust primary.
“It has happened in my state and in so many states. This is a very critical and important assignment considering the number of candidates”, he said.
