Governor Nyesom Wike in the early hours of (Saturday) today mobilised to stop alleged attempt by men of the Department of State Security, DSS and the Police to abduct a Judge at his number 35/84 B residence, Forces Avenue, Port Harcourt.

The governor who fielded questions from newsmen in front of the Judge’s residence said he was manhandled by men of the DSS and the Police who came to whisk the judge away.

“What has happened this night is unfortunate. Even in military government it has never happened like this , you listen to people. This is why we are here. I said not under my watch will I allow this type of activity take place.

“The DSS, Police they cocked their guns and said they will shoot me. And I told them I have never heard this type of thing happen before. Again this is to show that more of this will come.

Wondering why the security men will choose 1 am to storm the residence of the judge the governor said their action portend danger for the nation’s democracy.

He said all he expected the security men to have done was to invite the judge, adding that if he had ignored the invitation then other legal steps should have been taken.

Continuing, he said he did not bother to know the name of the judge but he only had to come out to stop the attempted abduction of the judge because as Chief Security of the state he would not allow such lawlessness take place in his state.

Yawa!!! Chinese Lovers Set Ablaze Lagos Hotel, Exchange Punches In Court

There was a mild drama at the Ebute-Meta Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday after two Chinese lovers – Zhen Zhen, female (47) and Leo Jian Feng, male (41) – engaged in fisticuffs on the court premises.

They assaulted each other shortly after their handcuffs were removed by the police.

It took the intervention of court officials to stop the duo from injuring each other. They were later called to the dock to answer to charges of alleged arson.

It was said that the duo had checked into the Ernest Hotel in Ikeja on July 4. They were alleged to have set the facility on fire while smoking some substance.

They were subsequently arrested after firefighters of the Lagos State Fire Service put out the inferno.

The suspects were arraigned on two counts of arson.

The charge read in part, “That you, Zhen Zhen and Leo Jian Feng, both Chinese, on July 5, 2016, at about 2am at Bamishele Street, off Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit: arson.

“That you did willfully and unlawfully set fire to burn part of the Ernest Hotel on Bamishele Street, off Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos, valued at N17,864,900, property of one Ernest Uwanyerem.”

The police prosecutor, Sergeant Olatunde Kehinde, said the offence was punishable under sections 409 and 339 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor announced the presence of the Investigating Police Officer, Ernest Nwanyanwu of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department; a representative of the hotel, Muhammed Shubero; and a representative of the Chinese embassy.

The magistrate, M.O. Ope-Agbe, called the representative of the hotel to explain what transpired on the day of the incident.

According to Shubero, the lovers lodged in the hotel on July 4 after necessary documentation.

He said, “Around 2am on July 5, one of the hotel attendants smelt cigarette from their room. She went there and warned them that smoking was prohibited in that arena. However, they ignored her.

“In the morning, the attendant and a security guard called me that the hotel was on fire. By the time I got there, there was nothing left of the hotel.”

Shubero said the hotel attendant and the security guard were ready to testify in court.

However, the Chinese couple, who spoke through an interpreter, denied being responsible for the fire that burnt the hotel.

Feng, in his defence, said he never smoked in the facility.

He said, “It is true that I stayed in the hotel, but I did not smoke. I was not around when the hotel was on fire.”

Zhen, who also denied smoking, said she had slept off , but suddenly woke up to discover that the hotel was on fire and she ran for her life.

The representative of the Chinese embassy told the court that he had gone to the police to get the details of the case when he was told it was being taken to court.

The magistrate, Ope-Agbe, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N2m each with two sureties each in like sum.

She said, “One of the sureties must be a Nigerian and the other a Chinese. They must be responsible sureties with evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.”

The case was adjourned till July 22, 2016, for mention.Punch

Soldiers Shoot At A Lawyer In Festac (Graphic Photos)

Some solders in Festac have shot at and brutalized a motorist for having an argument with a soldier over the right of way.

The soldiers numbering about four reportedly chased the motorist identified barrister Olajide Sipe, from 23 road Mobile Petrol station, shooting and at his vehicle in the process.

They thereafter dragged the helpless victim out of the car and beat him thoroughly with stones and sticks.

Our correspondent at the scene was told by relatives of the victim that but for the timely intervention of a retired commodore who stopped his car and restrained the soldiers from inflicting more injuries on the Jide, he could have lost his life in the attack.

After the commodore intervened, Jide was rushed by bystanders to Mercy Gate hospital along 72 Road where is receiving treatment.

Narrating his ordeal to our correspondent at the hospital, Jide said: I was coming from where I went to buy water barely ten minutes after talking with my wife on the phone, at 23 Road Mobil Petrol station, those buying fuel had blocked one lane and a soldier had stopped a bus on the other lane in the middle of the road.

“When I realized that the soldier was blocking the road I said to him, Oga this thing you are doing is causing holdup, why don’t you take the bus out of the road, so that we can move, and then he said to me who are you, what nonsense are you talking, and I said, no Oga I’m not trying to teach you what to do, I’m only telling you that if you do this thing it will be better for us using the road.

“The next thing he said was, You must be a useless man, then when I saw that he was already taking that tone I decided to move my car, then he started running after me, after I took the turning on 23 Road, another soldier, light in complexion came in front of my car, I stopped, then he began kicking my front wheel and smashed my windscreen.

“When I saw he was kicking my car, I moved, then the two Soldiers boarded a bike, then they later became four and began chasing me, as I got to 7th Avenue, I made a U-turn and they rammed their bike into my car, then I drove off, when the soldiers saw me driving off they shot at the car twice, the second bullet hit my tyre.

When I heard the sound of the gun I couldn’t believe I was being shot at. After my tyre went flat, I came down and they ran to me and beat me blue black, after that people around brought me to the hospital.

The relatives of the victim said the commanding officer of the soldiers, Lieutenant Sadi, later came to the hospital to see the damage his men had caused to an innocent citizen, but offered no further succor.

Two sisters burnt to death in filling station fire in Osogbo

Two children of the same parents were burnt to death in a fire outbreak at `Bovas’ petrol station in Osogbo on Wednesday, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports. An eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity, told NAN that the victims were children of the owner of the station.

The mother of the children also suffered burns while trying to rescue her children. The Director of the state Fire Service, Mr Michael Ogundipe, who confirmed the incident while speaking with journalists said that two lives were lost in the fire and that the cause of the fire had yet to be determined. "We responded immediately we were called and sent two vehicles.
We have equipment but there was congestion on the road which slowed down our movement. We met the fire burning and observed that the construction of the building did not follow the guideline. There was no exit route. No fire extinguisher was there.

They would have been able to battle the fire if they had extinguishers,” he said. The director said that the remains of the children had been deposited at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology morgue while their mother was also receiving treatment at the same hospital. Eyewitnesses said the woman and her three children were inside the mini market attached to the filling station when the fire started. The woman was able to rescue one of the children.

Amazing recovery of 16yrs old girl, 16, who lost her hair, fingertips and half of her skin in freak home explosion 2 months ago

The fire was so aggressive it went right to the fat beneath her skin, leaving her hands washed out. Her mother and stepfather were at work when the house exploded and Kilee ran out the half destroyed walls into the street on fire. Her neighbours began throwing buckets of water on her as they made efforts to call her parents. She was rushed to a helipad with her mother then flown to Cincinnati Children's Hospital 20 minutes away, then transferred to the specialist unit at Shriner's down the road where her father met them. In the emergency room doctors cut open her arms in a desperate bid to reduce the swelling, while she was given oxygen, an IV, and doused in antibiotic solution. Incredibly, the 16 year old has made a quick recovery two months later and and this week she took the ultimate step to go back to school. After four operations, skin grafts on her hands, and two months of physiotherapy, Kilee has returned to RULH High School, where she is honour student and plays soccer. She is one out of many lucky people who have escaped the harsh effect of fire outbreak. "I guess I'm just lucky,' Brookbank said to WCPO "It makes you stronger. You don't take anything for granted. It's life changing. I know there's worse things that can happen.' Few could imagine anything much worse than lighting a candle to get rid of a foul smell, then almost burning to death. 'It felt normal,' she said. 'My body felt the same, kind of numb. My hands felt different. I remember it was very hot, but it didn't hurt.'
